Squeeze the Day: Our Kitchen Adventures with Fresh OJ

There’s nothing quite like the taste of freshly squeezed orange juice to start the day. It’s a fond childhood memory that’s now become a beloved activity in our home, and today we’re giving you a glimpse of our kitchen through this delightful experience.

Growing up, I remember the joy of juicing oranges with my family and being spoiled by my dad, who would surprise us with a cold glass of OJ in bed. To carry on this tradition, we’ve turned our backyard into a mini citrus haven with two orange trees transplanted from a local orchard. It’s been an absolute treat to head out with our baskets and pick fresh oranges together.

Our adorable Ollie Ella rolling baskets, which were initially purchased for their aesthetic appeal, have now found their true purpose as perfect orange carriers. The little basket we got during a trip to Vermont in the fall adds a rustic touch to our fruit-picking adventures.

When it comes to our kitchen design, we collaborated with the talented Becki Owens, who helped bring our vision to life. We knew we wanted a butcher block island for its warmth and charm, even though we’ve yet to fully utilize it for chopping (it’s still in its “new phone” phase, after all!).

Our trusty Breville juicer is a household favorite, though we dream of someday owning one of those fancy automatic orange juicers seen in restaurants. If only they weren’t so expensive!

A common question we receive is about the white paint we’ve used throughout our home. It’s Benjamin Moore’s ‘Dove White’, which was custom-matched for our kitchen cabinetry by Masterbrand. We also opted for custom panels to cover our fridge and freezer, giving our kitchen a seamless, elegant look.

The white-washed brick backsplash is a personal favorite, adding a unique touch to our kitchen. Actual bricks were used and then white-washed to achieve this beautiful finish. And when it comes to lighting, the stunning pendants from Urban Electric had us giddy with excitement, as they truly bring the space together.

Finally, our cozy breakfast nook features a table and chairs from Wayfair, and we couldn’t be happier with the comfort they provide. Sure, the chair pads may need a good wash from time to time (thanks to the kids), but that’s all part of the charm.

So there you have it, a peek into our kitchen and the joy of fresh orange juice that brings our family together. Cheers to squeezing the day!
